Tussah is a type of wild silk where the free-living caterpillars develop in the cocoon and are allowed to hatch afterwards, unlike conventional wild silk. In this process, the cocoon is broken open and the wild silk tears. The resulting shorter and irregular threads create the typical structure of Tussah silk.
